If you want to pursue Pharmacy after completing your 12th standard (HSC) examination in the Science stream, you have various options. You may opt for any one of the following courses in Pharmacy.

  • Pharm (Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy)
  • D (Doctor in Pharmacy).
  • Pharm (Diploma in Pharmacy)

Pharmacy Courses Details, Duration, Fees, Eligibility

Eligibility criterion For B.Pharm and Pharm.D: If you seek admission for the B.Pharm or Pharm.D course, it is essential to pass the 12th science exam with English, Physics and Chemistry, Mathematics, and/or Biology (PCM or PCB) with a minimum of 45% marks.(40% for reserved category students).

In addition to this, some states may also have their Common Entrance Test (CET). E.g., Karnataka state will have its common entrance test KCET. For seeking admission to the B.Pharm course; you must clear the KCET test. The test’s pattern is multiple choice questions and is conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority(KEA).

The age criterion for B.Pharm and Pharm.D:   While you apply for these courses, you should have completed a minimum of 17 years of age on or before 31st December of the year of admission.

The eligibility criterion for D.Pharm:For seeking admission to the D.Pharm course, you should pass the 12th standard(HSC) science with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and/or Biology. Some states may conduct an entrance exam for D.Pharm admissions.

Duration of the courses:

B.Pharm: The B.Pharm course is a 4 years degree course divided into eight semesters and comprises theory classes and laboratory practicals.

Pharm D: The course duration is of 6 academic years. The first five years are of study and the last year is where the candidate will have a one-year residency or internship, where you may have to work in hospital units.

D.Pharm: Diploma in Pharmacy is a two-year duration course that will have a total of 4 semesters. These comprise of theory and practicals.
